"Fun"ctional Friday cooking!

This past Friday, we continued our lessons in learning how to spread using a butter knife. We made Tortilla Roll-ups and kids practice their knife holding skills, how much to put on their knife, how to appropriately get the food product out of the container (rather than just stabbing the center of it- :-) and how to spread an even amount on to the tortilla. The kids used their tortilla to spread cream cheese evenly over the surface of it and then chose meat (turkey or ham) slices to put on top of the cream cheese. They then rolled them up and ate them. With the exception of 1 or 2 students, the kids ate them up! Below are some pictures of our activity. Look in your child's book bag for their assigned ingredient to bring for this weeks cooking activity! We will be making an entire lunch meal (you won't need to send in a lunch for them that day!) and eating in a family format. We will also be practicing their table setting, dish washing and conversation skills. Please let me know by Thursday morning if you need help providing your child's ingredient!

Important Reminder for Tuesday, September 16th

The all school picture is being taken on Tuesday, Sept. 16th! Please make sure that your child wears a "Green and/or Gold" shirt on that day for the morning picture. If you don't have anything in that color you can also just send your child in a Lindbergh shirt. Since the picture is taken from the roof of the school building, do not stress if you cannot find a shirt that meets this criteria!

"Fun"ctional Friday Fun!

Towards the end of each day, I read to the students from the "Mercy Watson" series. Mercy is a pig that finds herself in all kinds of mischief and the students are loving the books. One of the things that Mercy loves best is hot, buttered toast. To introduce the students to the first of many cooking lessons and opportunities, our OT, Mrs. Schafer and I decided to teach the students how to make just that! (We did allow them to add cinnamon sugar too :) The kids had a blast and so here are just a few pictures from our activity. I also included just a few others that have been taken throughout the week that were too fun not to share!

Friday is Picture Day!

This Friday, September 5th is picture day! I haven't received any order forms but I will hunt down the teacher who organizes everything and see why we didn't receive any! Make sure to look in your child's parent folder Thursday evening for the form and/or communication from me regarding this issue! Be sure to return the form filled out (even if you don't want to order any!) Friday morning in the slot labeled for me. Please remember that you can also order pictures online (the information should be on the order form.)

Ex. of Expandable file folder

Here are a couple of examples of the plastic, expandable file folder portfolio that I am adding to the supply list for PALS. Both of these examples have 7 sections, which is the least number of slots I have been able to find. As long as there are at least 4 sections then it doesn't matter beyond that. I took these examples from the Target & Office Max websites but I have also found these type of folders at Walgreens, Walmart, CVS, etc. I have seen them priced between $7-$15 and are a variety of colors. The sturdier the plastic the better as they need to be able to withstand being transported between school & home everyday. Please let me know if you need financial assistance in purchasing your child's school supplies. Please remember that you only need to purchase the items listed under PALS Program section of the main school supply list. Thank you & see you all soon!
