Week of 3/12-3/16

Greetings!
Just a few reminders about this week! On Friday the 16th,  the students will be dismissed at 11:05am. Lunch will NOT be served and we will NOT be cooking that day! The kids will be swimming first hour so please send them to school in their swim suits. Additionally, we are starting a new unit on myths and mythological creatures. I purchased a book at the Scholastic book fair on various mythological creatures and the students were immediately fascinated with this book. Fueled by their enthusiasm, I have decided to do a unit on mythological creatures & just a few of the Gods.  Your child has already chosen a creature that they will be doing a poster on (more information on this AFTER spring break as these will be completed at home).  Wednesday is a MAP preparation day for the rest of the school so the students will be in my room for the majority of the day. I will be showing parts of the 1979 "Clash of the Titans" to introduce them to the Greek times, some of the creatures as well as some of the main Gods. There is a brief nude scene that I will NOT be showing but I feel this version does a much better job of showing examples as opposed to the newest version of "Clash of the Titans" or "Percy Jackson & the Lightening Bolt Thief" which tends to bring in too much Hollywood special effects and are tied to current day time lines which may be confusing to the kids. However, these could be good books or movies to watch with your child over spring break to add to their knowledge of the unit we will be working on for the next few weeks.  If I do not talk with you prior to break (March 19th-23rd) I hope you all have a wonderfully relaxing break!!  

Friday

The kids will be swimming this Friday during the last period of the day, so send in their suits & towels with them. We will be cooking lunch again on Friday, though I am not yet sure what we will be cooking :) If any of you are interested in cooking please send or post any dates to this comment and I will mark you down. Thanks!

Summary of Prom Meeting

Here is a summary of what was discussed/covered at our meeting the other night:

Date: Saturday, May 19th ~ 6-10pm at St. Mark's Episcopal Church (parent's arrive at 7:30pm)
Food:

• Market's: snacks (pretzels, chex mix, fruit, etc.) & green salad
• Robison's: Red sauce/pasta; kid drinks (soda, water, juice)
• Miramonti's: Grilled Chicken
• Soden's: Desserts, dinner rolls
• Hooss': Desserts
• Still need: Condiments??? salad dressing/butter/ketchup

Decorations/Additional "stuff":
Theme: Under the Stars  Colors: Royal Blue/Silver

• Sifford's: Balloons in Prom colors
• Robison's: Flowers for tables, etc.
• Soden's: Gave Anna $$ to purchase additional decorations
• Miramonti's: Carlo's sister/cousins to act as dinner servers & DJ; Provide karaoke machine; provide disco ball
• Lay: Awards/trophies/framed certificates, etc.
• Still Need: Music?? iPods??CD Player??

Mike Straatmann - will let us know @ limo  -- if yes, kids must be at SMS no later then 6:00 pm

The decorating & drop off of food should be between 4-4:30 pm at the hall-
